Autumn Pear Crisp

Fall is in the air! Crisp, cool weather, colorful leaves, fall festivities, and, of course, all the seasonal foods. Sweet, juicy pears are in season, and this Autumn Pear Crisp will give you all the fall feels.

Recipe: Autumn Pear Crisp with Vanilla Ice Cream

Ingredients:

Crisp Topping

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup light brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

Crisp Filling

  • 6-7 Bartlett pears (approx. 3 lb.)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • Vanilla ice cream (for serving)

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Wash, peel, and core pears. Cut pears into ¼-½ inch thick slices.
  3. In a large bowl, toss sliced pears with lemon juice.
  4. In a small bowl, combine the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, flour, and salt. Pour over sliced pears and lightly toss to coat evenly.
  5. Spread the pears evenly into a 9-inch cast iron skillet or 2-quart oven proof baking dish.
  6. For the topping, combine flour, oats, granulated sugar, brown sugar, salt, and cubed butter in a medium bowl. Stir together and mix with hands until large crumbles form.
  7. Sprinkle topping over the pears evenly to cover completely.
  8. Place in oven and bake for 50 minutes to 1 hour, until bubbly and top is golden brown.
  9. Remove from oven and serve warm.
  10. Top with your favorite vanilla ice cream and enjoy!
